Quickstart, How Traqer Works, and Setup
What Traqer is, how it works, and how to set up your brand.
# Welcome to Traqer
Traqer is an AI visibility tracking platform. It monitors how your brand appears in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude.
When someone asks an LLM "What's the best accounting software for a small business?", does your brand show up? Traqer answers that question — across hundreds of prompts, organized by topic.
## Why Traqer Exists
Most AI visibility tools track individual prompts and report a single brand-level visibility percentage. We think that approach is broken for three reasons:
**1\. No one knows what users actually type into LLMs.** There's no "search console" for ChatGPT. Users don't enter short, repeatable keywords — they have long conversations that are personalized and impossible to reproduce. So tracking a single prompt and over-reading into whether you show up for it doesn't make sense.
**2\. Single visibility percentages create bad incentives.** If your marketing team starts tracking new, ambitious topics they're not yet visible for, the overall percentage drops. It \\\_looks\\\_ like performance got worse, but nothing actually changed. This discourages teams from being ambitious. **3\. Not all prompts are commercially valuable.** If a user asks ChatGPT "how does cash flow work?", LLMs will explain the concept without mentioning any software brands. Tracking those prompts is a waste. What matters are product-centric prompts where LLMs actually list and recommend brands. Traqer is built around these beliefs. It's topic-based, not keyword-based. It scores prompts by buying intent. And it connects AI visibility back to content strategy you can actually act on.
## Key Concepts
Before diving in, here are the ideas that shape how Traqer works:
### Topics, Not Single Prompts
Traqer organizes tracking around **topics** (e.g., "best accounting software for small businesses") rather than individual prompts. Each topic contains multiple prompts that approach it from different angles. This gives you a more reliable picture of your visibility than any single prompt can.
For each topic, Traqer calculates the percentage of prompts where your brand is either mentioned or cited — broken out by LLM. This is your **topic-level visibility percentage.**
For example, if 3 out of 5 prompts in a topic mention your brand on ChatGPT, your ChatGPT visibility for that topic is 60%.
This is calculated \\\_per topic, per LLM\\\_ — not as a single brand-wide number. That's intentional. Averaging visibility across unrelated topics hides the signal you need to make decisions.

### Brand Mentions vs. Citations
Traqer tracks two types of visibility:
- **Brand mentions:** Your brand is named in the LLM's recommendation (e.g., "QuickBooks is a popular option for small businesses").
- **Citations:** Your website or content is linked or referenced as a source the LLM used to generate its answer.
Both matter, but they mean different things. You can be cited without being recommended, and recommended without being cited.

### Brand-Level Visibility Models
Most AI visibility tools report a single visibility percentage across all models and prompts. That number is easy to game: delete prompts you're not visible for and it goes up; start tracking ambitious new topics and it goes down, even though your actual visibility hasn't changed. It also averages across LLMs, hiding real differences between how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews treat your brand.
To solve this, Traqer gives you three ways to measure brand-level visibility instead.
- **LLM Visibility %** shows the percentage of prompts you appear in, broken out per LLM.
- **LLM Visibility Count** shows the raw number of prompts you appear in, which doesn't drop when you add new prompts.
- **Topic Visibility** groups your topics into High, Medium, and Low buckets so you can see at a glance where you're strong and where you need work. The last two can't be manipulated by adding or removing prompts.

### Supported LLMs
Traqer tracks AI responses from:
- **ChatGPT**
- **Perplexity**
- **Google AI Overviews**
- **Gemini**
- **Claude**
Visibility is shown per model because each LLM behaves differently. Citation patterns, brand listing thresholds, and response styles vary across models. A brand might have strong visibility on Perplexity but low visibility on ChatGPT for the same topic.
## Getting Started: Setting Up Your Brand
Setting up your first brand in Traqer takes a few minutes. Here's the flow:
### Step 1: Enter Your Brand Details
You'll be asked to provide:
- **Brand name** and **domain/URL**
- **Your products and services** — list the ways customers might describe what you sell
- **Your customers** — briefly list your ideal customer personas
- **Key features** — your important features, benefits, and differentiators
- **Business type** — SaaS/Software, Ecommerce/DTC, Service Business, Marketplace, or Other
This information helps Traqer generate relevant topics for your brand. The more specific you are, the better the suggestions.

### Step 2: Review Suggested Topics
Based on what you entered, Traqer will suggest topics it thinks are relevant to your business. AI-generated suggestions are marked with a ✦ icon.
You can uncheck any that aren't relevant and add your own topics using the "Add topic" field at the bottom.
**Our recommendation:** Think of topics similarly to SEO keywords, but with one key difference — LLMs aren't likely to mention brands for top-of-funnel, informational topics. Start with bottom-of-funnel, product-centric topics.
For example, an accounting software brand is better off tracking "best accounting software" than "cash flow statements." For the latter, ChatGPT will explain how cash flow works and probably won't mention any software.
### Step 3: Review and Edit Prompts
For each topic, Traqer automatically generates prompts:
- **The exact topic itself** — because Google AI Overview users still type shorter, traditional-style queries.
- **Four natural-sounding questions** — these cover the topic from multiple angles, giving you a more reliable visibility signal.
You can add, edit, or remove prompts before you start tracking. We recommend reviewing each one and keeping only prompts that are relevant to your business and realistic — something your customers might actually type into an AI tool.
### Step 4: Start Tracking
Click **Start Tracking** and Traqer will begin monitoring your brand across all supported LLMs. Results will start appearing shortly.
From here, you'll be able to see your topic-level visibility, dig into which prompts you're visible for, compare against competitors, and identify where to focus your content efforts.
